The first time I stepped foot on Buffalo States campus was for an open house event. I was switching my major and had no idea where to start. I knew I wanted to be a teacher but was overwhelmed by the decisions I had to make. When I walked over to the elementary education table, they told me all about the program. They also told me about this amazing thing called IPDS; a program where teacher candidates get the opportunity to teach abroad. I was shocked that I could possibly teach in a different country let alone Italy— somewhere I have wanted to go for as long as I can remember. From that point forward, I knew I wanted to be a part of the 2020 IPDS Italy cohort.
I can’t believe our trip is in just a few days. I have finished packing and it is starting to feel real. This is all I have been talking about for months now and it’s finally time to go (sorry to my family and friends who have had to listen to me ramble, I will bring back good souvenirs). I am most excited about experiencing a culture that is different than my own and, of course, tasting some pretty amazing food! This is my first time traveling abroad and I am so excited to see the world beyond the United States. This is a once in a life time opportunity and I will appreciate each and every second of it. Not only will I be exploring new places with some of my closest friends, but I will also be growing as a professional in the field of education. I know I will take what I learn in Italy and apply it in my future classroom. I am beyond excited to see where this journey will take me. The next time you hear from me, I will be in Rome!!!
