After such a great year that 2019 has been, it really seems only fitting that I’m going to be kicking off 2020 by checking off a few more countries on the list! This trip to Italy will be my third time crossing the Atlantic to Europe, and I’m just as excited this time as I was the first! I know that the magical sights, people, and experiences that are waiting for me will grow me as a person and as an educator.
With less than two weeks to go, I’ve started thinking of some of the things I’m most looking forward to. Some are pretty obvious, like seeing the Duomo in Florence, Colosseum in Rome, Vatican City, and the Isle of Capri. But then there’s some lower-key moments, like going out surrounded by locals, taking a run down charming streets, and sharing pieces of my own culture with the people that I’ll meet. Of course, I can’t wait to see an Italian classroom, watch the students learn, and participate in their educational experience. Moments like these can’t be duplicated anywhere else, and will be special, unique opportunities that not every teacher gets to have. As my undergrad career is coming to an end, I can’t overlook how meaningful this trip is going to be to my future role as a teacher and the students that I’ll get to work with. I’m also glad to be able to be around students that don’t speak the same language as myself, since I’d like to earn my TESOL certification down the road. I’m thrilled to see everything this trip will hold for me, and to take this experience with me as I student teach next semester!

It looks and sounds like you are having an amazing time, Alex! Your TC "team" can't wait to hear about your experiences!! Enjoy the rest of your time! The food sounds AMAZING - and yes - I LIKE ROASTED CHESTNUTS! It is a holiday tradition to eat them on Christmas Eve - I'll make sure NOT to bring some to class! Keep blogging...Truly, MB

AuthorCiao! My name is Alex and I’m a senior in the Childhood Education program. I love experiencing different cultures, trying new things, and traveling; this trip will bring my foreign country total into double digits! I’m thrilled to be able to work with students of a different background than myself, and hope to go into TESOL in the future. I can’t wait to bring my Italian experience into my own future classroom!
