The trip to Italy is officially 7 days away! I am starting to get excited. Especially since we have been cooped up in our homes since last Thursday evening. In case you didn’t know, Buffalo and our surrounding areas have been amidst a blizzard! Where I live, we have over 3 feet of snow, with many huge snowdrifts from the treacherous wind gusts that accompanied the storm. I keep finding myself looking at the weather in Rome, Italy, only to see highs in the mid 60s! How wonderful it will be to escape the doldrums of January in Buffalo, NY. After the holiday hustle and bustle is over, January always seems to be the slowest and most depressing month of the year. Isn’t it ironic that it is the beginning of the New Year? Perhaps it is meant to start our year off poorly, so that our eternal optimistic nature says, “It can only get better, right?” Well, this year for me will begin with an adventure of a lifetime! Traveling abroad has always been that trip that I always dreamt about, but never seemed doable, being a mom of three young children and having my elderly father living with us since 2021. But with the love and support of my family and friends, this is happening! I will be able to experience education in an Italian classroom, in another country, with a wonderful group of students in this year’s IPDS Italy Buffalo State cohort. I am looking forward to learning more about their culture while discovering more about myself in the process. As I begin to pack today, I will continue to journal my thoughts, so that I can share them with you. Until my next blog entry, I leave you with a picture of what my holiday weekend looked like here in Williamsville, New York. This helps alleviate some anxiety about the trip and increases another positive reason to embark on this journey in one week….

AuthorI am a graduate student working towards a M.S.Ed in Childhood Education plus Early Childhood certification. I received an undergraduate degree in Health Studies at Brock University in Ontario, Canada and currently serve as graduate assistant for Elementary Education, Literacy & Educational Leadership (EELEL) and Professional Development Schools (PDS). I love working with children and helping them achieve their full potential and have a love of learning that is infectious, which I hope to instill in my future students! I am planning to continue my academic career by working towards an EdD or PhD. When not working hard on my studies or GA position, I spend every moment with my father, husband, and three children, (ages 12, 9, 8) and many pets! ArchivesCategories |
