Second GradeAshley and I taught a color mixing lesson to second graders on Tuesday. The students were very interested in the lesson. We used red, blue and yellow oil pastels to make the secondary colors . We incorporated the english language into the lesson by having the students write out sentences such as" The triangle is yellow." I was very impressed with how well we were able to communicate with the students and teacher. She did not know english and we do not know how to speak Italian. But it worked and the lesson went smooth. We were able to interact with the students and we had control of the classroom. I did notice that the students had a hard time making their shapes large and the shapes also did not touch so we had to help them out with that part. I noticed that their penmanship was great and for the most part the students can comprehend very basic english. I am very happy with how our lesson turned out.

PompeiiThis weekend we took a beautiful trip to Pompeii,Naples , Sorrento, Pompeii, and the Amalfi Coast. I loved Pompeii, i used to be obsessed with it when I was a little kid. I have always been amazed that a whole city could just disappear over night. It was such a great experience to see something that I have been interested for the last 11 years. It was much bigger than I had imagined. I like that our tour guide was informational but not boring. The city must have been beautiful because it was covered in frescos. I enjoyed the art aspect of the tour the most. It was also really cool seeing works up close and personal. Most of the art that was their I only have seen on text books. I loved being able to get personal and up close with the works. And seeing them first hand was a real treat! I loved Pompeii and could have spent all day their exploring. I do wish we were able to go to the museum so we could have seen more. Naples Naples was not my favorite place, it was crowed and dirty. It has so much potential to be a beautiful city. Their is great architecture, it in a great location and the scenery is awesome but i feel like its just rundown and people have given up hope on it. I did really enjoy when were able to get off the buss and take photos. It was really beautiful. CapriCapri was the most beautiful place I have ever seen. We were able to take a boat in the the sea and sail around the island. We shopped and walked around the city and it was just amazing. Really words cannot describe how beautiful it was. Sorrento and the Amalfi coast We mostly did some shopping in theses places. We were not here for long but I am glad I get to say I was there . They were breathtaking as well. It seams like most of the towns here are nestled in the moutons overlooking the Mediterranean sea. Everyplace we went to was just astounding. We were in Rome for about a day. We stayed the night in a cute little hotel and it was great! We went to dinner at this small family style restaurant next to our hotel. I had lobster linguini and it was delicious! After dinner some of the girls and and I were looking for something to do. The door man gave us suggestions of places to go. We just ended up going out together. He took us to an Irish pub where they were singing karaoke, all the the songs were American, they sang everything from Neil Diamond to Rihanna. Next we went to a disco, its just a club. The club was not really my scene, but I got a few free drinks out of it, and I got to dance with a tall Italian man so it wasn't to bad. We were able to take a bus tore of rome and drove by most of the major sights, like the Vatican and the colosseum. I was puking most of the time we were there, but i enjoyed it and would love to go back! Well, right now I am supposed to be in Rome, but we have not even left New York State. We managed to miss an international flight because of bad weather. I did get to spend the night in NYC and that was pretty cool!
Speaking of flights, flying is crazy ! Basically your in a gas powered tube 30,000 feet in the air.( yeah, I don’t like thinking about it either). It is hot ,cramped and the air is dry and stale. My first experience flying was defiantly interesting. Our flight was delayed about 4 hours, so naturally I killed time at the airport bar. By the time we were leaving Buffalo we were supposed to be checking into our AlItalia flight at JFK. I was just worried about getting from Buffalo to the city, our pilot told us we were in for a bumpy ride and he was not wrong! The turbulence was crazy. It felt a lot like mud bogging but in the air. It would have been really fun if we were not bouncing around in the sky. It made the flight interesting to say the least. But flying into JFK was probably one of the most amazing things that I have seen. I have never been to New York City so seeing all the lights and just seeing the pure size of the city was astounding. It was great and the view was totally worth the trouble we had on the plane. On the plane we were instructed to “ run like hell” to our next plane. Unfortunately we did not make it and after a lot of yelling and frustration and a couple laughs we were able to get a new flight to Paris, then from Paris to Rome. Also we received free hotel rooms at a Holiday Inn Express. We have been in long Island sense about 10:00 pm last night. I am kind of disappointed in our time here. I understand it was unplanned, but we have just sat in a hotel lobby all day. We don’t need to be at the airport until tonight. I really wish we could have and gone and walked around the city. I think we are only 30 minutes away. But I guess if you are not used to riding in a car or driving that is a long time. But I also don’t know how things work in the city. But we are here, we might swell take advantage of it. Oh well, I guess I have a good excuse to come back! I am kind of nervous to fly to Paris, I hope that flight is nothing like that last one. I don’t think I can handle that again, Ill definitely puke. I am excited about the trip tho, within 72 hours ill have been to NYC, Paris and Rome. Even if I am unable to see and do everything that I want to I still will have been there and that’s pretty awesome! My name is Taylor I am 21 years old and this is my first trip out of the country! In fact this will be my first time on an air plane and our layover in New York City will be my first time in the city. I am very excited about this trip because Italy is rich in art history and I will be able use what I learn in my classroom.
